Coordination-number dependence of magnetic hyperfine fields at (111)Cd on Ni surfaces.
Ferromagnetic Ni surfaces were investigated on an atomic scale using the perturbed angular correlation spectroscopy probe (111)Cd. A comprehensive set of data for magnetic hyperfine fields (B(hf)) at various probe sites is presented. A field variation from -7 T in Ni bulk to the surprisingly large value of 16 T at the adatom position on Ni(111) is observed. A continuous nonlinear dependence is ...
متن کاملMagnetic Hyperfine Fields at Se Adatoms on Ni Surfaces.
Magnetic hyperfine fields for Se on Ni(111) and Ni(001) surfaces were measured with the perturbed angular correlation technique. The results are jBhfj 2.7s3d T for Se on Ni(111) and jBhfj 0.8s3d T for Se on Ni(001) at 90 K. These values of magnetic hyperfine fields of an adatom deviate drastically from the known bulk value of Bhf 15 T. The surface site positions of the probe atoms are dis...
متن کاملHyperfine Fields and Magnetic Moment Measurements on Radioactive Beams
Hyperfine fields of highly-charged heavy ions carrying at least one electron are proving to be of considerable utility for magnetic-moment measurements on radioactive beams. The method has long been referred to as the recoil in vacuum (RIV) technique [1]. An overview of recent progress is given, covering some essentials of the free-ion hyperfine fields [2, 3], applications to moment measurement...
متن کاملK3 surfaces over number fields with geometric Picard number one
A long-standing question in the theory of rational points of algebraic surfaces is whether a K3 surface X over a number field K acquires a Zariski-dense set of L-rational points over some finite extension L/K. In this case, we say X has potential density of rational points. In case XC has Picard rank greater than 1, Bogomolov and Tschinkel [2] have shown in many cases that X has potential densi...
متن کاملScene articulation: dependence of illuminant estimates on number of surfaces.
The ability of observers to detect changes in illuminant over two scenes containing different random samples of reflecting surfaces was determined in an experiment with Mondrian-like patterns containing different numbers of coloured patches. Performance was found to improve as the number of patches increased from 9 to 49. In principle, observers could have used space-average scene colour as the...
